When Domingas Bezerra’s baby was sick with a high fever, she knew she had to act. As a house cleaner and mother of three, she needed to find a clinic that had affordable medicine.

At the maternal health centre in Angola, missionary Irma Trindade said it was hard to get that medicine until Shalina came along. She said Shalina has many medications, especially for children.

According to Domingas, the affordable medicine at the health centre caused her baby’s fever to go away and it was less expensive compared to other hospitals.

“I don’t know what I would do without the clinic,” Domingas said.

Shalina’s mission to provide quality, affordability and availability gave both Domingas and Irma what they were looking for at a time when they needed it most.

Today, Shalina is a major provider of essential medicines for countries like Angola.  Additionally, the company has founded a series of local depots to reach hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and non-governmental organizations (NGO’s). Shalina also hopes to form a new manufacturing center in Angola.

Shalina produces over 200 products, and is certified with the World Health Organization and Good Manufacturing Practices – both internationally recognized standards of manufacturing.

Furthermore, the company aims to work with the Ministry of Health to combat the issue of counterfeit medication in Africa.

Their involvement with the African community has lowered infant and adult mortality rates due to an increased presence of analgesics and antibiotics.
